Why Am I So Happy Today!

Almost everyday, something or the other at Toubé Bäs delights me no ends! Unfortunately, we are programmed to keep working mindlessly, leaving these small delights on the causeway (Bawarchi, anyone?!) I decided I will make it a point to consciously relish my delights and, importantly, share them with you too - nothing to lose, eh?

Sitting down to do Toubé Bäs stuff gives me peace ... so much peace! I think I rediscover those joys that I experienced when passionately painting some sidey stuff in the art book at school, or when I used to scribble away in my register while Prof. Ballal was trying to teach us concepts of Thermodynamics and Transport Phenomena (I failed in both the courses).

So yesterday, I received this mail from a customer-turned-friend, Koushik Sinharoy:

" Hi Sorabh,

I would like to get 'Mera Superhero - R D Burman' t shirt. We are big fan of your t shirts. Details of that particular t-shirt:
Size is XL
Color - Red
For - Girl
Link - http://www.toubebas.com/unisex-t-shirts/mera-superhero-rd-burman-t-shirt...

I already talked to you earlier. I live in Andheri - Mumbai. I can come to IIT Powai and pick it up. Please let me know suitable time and if I can pay by cash. Would like to chat a little as well. We are big fan of yours Sir."

I have no idea what's the deal with 'Sir' ... we'll talk about it when we meet. But you tell me ... if you receive this kind of a mail in your inbox, won't you just be plain happy!! :))

Yee hee! I am!!

There are two things that make me happy today:

1) I have started working on Toube Bas again ... recently, there's been a lot of positive energy flow around me w.rt. Toube Bas, tempting me to start working on it ... rediscovering the joys!

2) Thanks to Abhilasha Dafria, Toube Bas was featured on YourStory.in (click hither).

Well, I don't want to show-off, but I do read the Bhagvad Gita - occasionally. The concept of reading the Gita has been rammed into me by my father ... In fact, to my annoyance (at times), he questions the very need of reading any other book in the world. According to him, "Why do people read all those books when they have a book which has all the answers ...!" ...

One day, I will make sense of it.

So, today, when I was going through the 9th Chapter, which has been laid down as the "King of All Education" by Lord Krsna Himself, I received a call from an unknown number. It was Prateek Kotha ... a Media Communications stud who received a Toubé Bäs t-shirt a couple of days ago when his friend (and a Toubé Bäs customer) sent it across to him as a gift!

Normally, I am very apprehensive when someone who's just received a t-shirt calls ... since it could be anything from damaged parcel (that has never happened till date - luckily), to smaller or larger size (that's something I still need to crack ... how the hell do I make sure that the customer gets the perfect size ... it's a problem I need to solve) ...

But Prateek was all praise for the entire experience. We chit-chatted about life for some time (yes ... like I always tell you ... I am doing Toubé Bäs to express myself through t-shirts, and also because I love the idea of meeting new people and making friends out of them). He liked the post-card idea (which I work on very, very diligently everytime I send a t-shirt off to some address), and he liked the t-shirt (Abhinav sent him an RDB t-shirt). We had a minor size issue to resolve ... and we decided that I will send him a larger sized t-shirt tomorrow while he can re-send the smaller one back to me ... but we pledged that whenever he's going to be in Bombay, we will meet over coffee!

That' why I keep doing Toubé Bäs. I am pretty inconsistent as far as bringing out t-shirts is concerned (sometimes I will go for a barren run for months) ... but I just can't resist the temptation to keep doing whatever I do here when a customer calls, and within minutes becomes a number worth saving in the phone-book!

Yesterday, as I crawled back from Lake Homes where I met my cousin brother, dined, and was about to end my day with reluctant tooth-brushing session, I heard my Nokia 3315 tinkle. Little did I know that the day still had some more in store for me ... it was Dushyant Gupta's message (who was told about Toubé Bäs by Parle/Prateek Mehta). Here's how it went:

"Hey Sorabh, just reached home and got to see my tees. They are really cool. Your marketing idea is pretty unique. I have added you to my FB. I will spread the word by all means. You keep up the good work. Cheers!"

You can imagine how I must have slept with not a single worry in the world, right! That's the fun of doing all this ... make friends (not just customers ... thankfully), meet interesting, passionate people (that's true ... since it's mostly the passionate kind that buys a t-shirt here) ... and sleep tight :DD

Another beautiful morning. Not just because I spend my time from 2am in the morning till 5am waiting to receive didi on her most-awaited trip to Bombay, but also because of this beautiful message from Sreechand Tavva, one latest customer at Toubé Bäs. Ctrl-C-ing and Ctrl-V-ing it as it is:"

"Hi! Sorabh,

Thanks for the excellent tee and the goodies.
I love the way the packaging as well.
It is very well done.

I express myself with my tee shirts, most of them very selectively purchased or custom printed.
I just loved the line " t shirts don't hide they reveal".

Also, just loved the postcard!!

Sending it tomorrow to a friend of mine!

Regards
Sreechand"

That's the kind of 'return' that really makes it worth doing things on Toubé Bäs. Thanks, SreeChand!

PS: In case you're wondering what the whole deal with the 'postcard' in the message above is ... you got to buy a t-shirt here to find out! It's a, "Surprise! Surprise!"

Yesterday (14th June), I mail-merged the 350 odd customers-cum-friends of Toube Bas about the new t-shirt (RDB), and the new look-and-feel of the website. Today, I received this mail way early in the morning from old customer, Rishi Madan (a terrific guy, btw):

"Dear Sorabh,
Good to have u back creating awesome tees after a long time. I have never shopped this early in the morning, but for you. I just bought the super hero T.
Also I have another request, I would like to know if you are willing to part with the original sketch of the Runveer T along with the poem for same. It inspires me a lot and I would like to frame and put it up on my wall.
I look forward to hear from you.
Rishi"

Should that keep me happy for today (at the least)? You-bet-moi-fanny it should! Thanks, Rishi!
